How to Stop Debt Collectors in Their Tracks and Beat Debt Collectors at Their Own Game
Wednesday, August 5th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIn today’s economy it’s pretty easy to get behind in your bills. And when that happens you might have to deal with debt collectors. Even though we have to take care of our bills, we do not have to be subjected to a lot of the downright disgusting tactics that some debt collection agencies resort to. It’s possible to stop debt collectors in their tracks and beat debt collectors at their own game.
Although there are legitimate debt collection agencies who will respectfully work with you, all too many of them revert to debt collector harassment, intimidation and threats. They pester you. They never leave you alone. And some of the things they do are so sleazy and downright sneaky that they can make a grown man cry.
Even though things are probably looking pretty bleak right now, you don’t have to take it. You can fight back and turn the tables on them.
Here are some of the things you could do.
The most important thing to remember is that you do not have to put up with being harassed.
You can tell them that they will have to communicate to you in writing. This will get you their name and address along with their phone number.
You can use that information to research their company. You want to see if they are a legitimate debt collection agency. If they aren’t legitimate and they’re taking illegal actions you can certainly stop debt collectors and report them.
It’s good to get this information because then you will have things in writing if you end up going to court.
The most important thing is not to give them any of your personal financial information over the phone. If they begin pressuring you and start demanding that information, just tell them to put their requests in writing and send it to you.
If they keep on trying to pressure you just hang up.
Now, if you use a cellular phone, why not add their phone number to your reject list? Why should you talk to such jerks?
Unfortunately, they could be worse than just being jerks. They could be outright thieves who have gotten hold of your phone number and account information. It could be a slimy debt collection agency that will take money out of your account with or without your authorization if you give them the information they are telling you to give them.
Once again, never give out any personal information to debt collection agencies over the phone.
